WMOC 2022 Organizers Keep Entry Fees Low Through April

WMOC 2022 organizers have announced that February 15and the date for the increase in registration fees has been postponed to April 30and. Fees for Sprint and Forest races remain at €160 until April 30and So.

IOF Senior Events Adviser David May (GBR) said: “I fully support this change. With COVID 19 restrictions constantly changing, many potential competitors are waiting for things to become clearer before entering. This change does not penalize anyone financially and allows more time to make a decision.

He also adds: “I have been contacted by a number of other orienteers who have asked me questions about the weather conditions and about getting around in and around the Vieste event centre. As Senior Event Adviser, I have to be confident that the WMOC is meeting the needs of the competitors, and I want to report that I’m glad it does.

“The average maximum temperature in Vieste at the beginning of July is 26°C – very pleasant for a holiday on the coast but rather hot for running. Thus, the Sprint races will take place early in the morning when it is cooler. Forest races will take place on the Gargano plateau where at around 800m altitude it is around 4-5°C cooler than in Vieste, and 100% tree cover will also provide plenty of shade.

“The limited number of parking spaces at the races means that most competitors will be transported by bus to and from the venues. While bus transportation has been an afterthought at some previous WMOCs, it has been a top priority for the organizing team here and much of the preparation has already gone into planning for it. I’m sure competitors will appreciate the bus “taking the pressure off” rather than going by car.
