Success of Sheffield Schools at Orienteering Championships

Children from eight primary and nine secondary schools in Sheffield and Hope Valley took part in the event held in Stowe Park, Buckinghamshire on Monday, November 21.

The trip was a success, with South Yorkshire orienteers winning 26 individual medals. Some schools in Sheffield were also on the podiums, including:

Year 5 Boys: Hunters Bar Junior School (Gold) and Carterknowle Junior School (Bronze)

The general ranking of schools was as follows:

Primary schools: Hunters Bar Junior School 2nd, Nether Green 4th, Carterknowle Junior School 5th

Small High Schools: Mercia 2nd School

Large secondary schools: High Storrs Schools 1st

South Yorkshire orienteering junior team captain Jacky Dakin was delighted with the performance.

Jacky said: “It was a very early morning start and a long way to go but it’s wonderful for the juniors to compete in such a beautiful setting and come away with a fantastic set of results. committed parents and teachers, and coaches of volunteer clubs who are at the origin of these medals and trophies won.

The British Schools Orienteering Championships for 2022 will take place on 20 November and are open to all pupils who have taken at least two previous orienteering events.
