Success for Sheffield Schools at Orienteering Championships

Children from eight primary schools and nine secondary schools in Sheffield and Hope Valley took part in the event which was held in Stowe Park, Buckinghamshire on Monday 21 November.
The trip was a success, with the South Yorkshire Orienteers winning 26 individual medals. Some Sheffield schools were also on the podiums, including:
Grade 5 boys: Hunters Bar Junior School (Gold) and Carterknowle Junior School (Bronze)
Grade 6 boys: Nether Green Junior School (Gold) and Hallam Primary (Bronze)
Grade 8 Boys: Tapton High School (Gold)
Grade 8 Girls: Storrs High School (Gold)
Year 10 Boys: High Storrs School (Gold)

The overall ranking of the schools was as follows:
Primary schools: Hunters Bar Junior School 2nd, Nether Green 4th, Carterknowle Junior School 5th
Small high schools: Mercia School 2nd
Major High Schools: Storrs 1st High Schools
South Yorkshire junior orienteering team captain Jacky Dakin was delighted with the performance.
Jacky said: “It was a very early start and a long way to go, but it’s wonderful for the juniors to compete in such a beautiful environment and come away with such a fantastic set of results. Thank you all the parents, teachers and volunteer club coaches who are responsible for winning these medals and trophies.
The 2022 British Schools Orienteering Championships will be held on November 20 and are open to all pupils who have taken part in at least two previous Orienteering events.
