Registration opens March 17 for The Nature Institute camps

GODFREY — Registration opens March 17 for Discovery Day Camps at The Nature Institute (TNI).

The camps began in 1982 with Aune Nelson as benefactor. Children walk the trails, play in the creek, and search for native plants and animals.

This year, TNI can increase attendance by 150 campers to a total of 650 campers. New this year include the Bubble Bus and guest speakers from the St. Louis Science Center, Lewis & Clark State Historic Site and Treehouse Wildlife Center.

“I’m thrilled the porch is full of kids, watching them learn through hands-on activities,” said Lauren Scull, director of education.

“I’m excited to have the kids come back and explore the woods and streams and get dirty while having fun,” said environmental educator Dave Schiber.

Camp registration opens March 17 for TNI members with a family membership and above. TNI membership offers families a 15% discount on the cost of camp. General registration opens March 18. Camp weeks run from June 6 to August 5.

Unlike previous years, this year multiple age groups will be present at the same time for most camp weeks. Themes will include Creek Week, Myths and Legends and Mad Science.

TNI also accepts applications for paid and volunteer seasonal camp positions. To register or learn more about the camp, visit, call 618-466-9930, or email [email protected]
