TRUMBULL – Many people who parked at the Westfield Trumbull shopping center on Sunday evening were asked to move their cars due to its “collapsed” upper parking area, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

“Some debris had fallen and created a pothole from the upper target area down to the lower target area,” said Travon Smith, a mall security guard. “There is a big hole and I suspect it was caused by snow, but it’s collapsing the foundation.”

Mall officials asked anyone who parked in that area to move their vehicles.

There were over 50 cars parked in this area.

No injuries were reported, Smith said.

Smith said he was unsure whether the relevant part of the mall would be open on Monday.

“The area is taped off, and they won’t be able to access it until the issue is resolved,” Smith said.

The incident began around 2 p.m., Smith said.
