Orienteering SA Coach to Guide USA World Junior Orienteering Championships Team
Adelaide, 9 May 2022: Orienteering SA is proud to announce that Resident Coach Evalin Brautigam has been named the USA Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) Practice Squad Coach, as well as being selected for the United States World Orienteering Championships (WOC) elite sprint team.
The appointment follows the announcement that five members of Ms Brautigam’s elite training squad have been selected to the national teams that will represent Australia at three major international events this year: the World orienteering in Denmark in June; Junior World Orienteering Championships to be held in Portugal in July; and the World University Championships to be held in Switzerland in August.
Orienteering is an international sport in which competitors navigate autonomously over urban or bush terrain to complete a course in the shortest possible time. Competitors must visit a number of physical checkpoints* highlighted on a special orienteering map, which is only revealed to competitors at the time of departure.
*MapRun is a new mobile phone application that allows orientation checkpoints to be set virtually on a map, with sound alerts when the orienteer is near the checkpoint.
