ORIENTATION – Octavian Droobers takes part in the White Rose Weekend in Yorkshire

OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club have won several races at the annual White Rose Weekend in Yorkshire.

A wide variety of events were planned for the Gilling area of ​​Yorkshire including a night score, middle and classic distance, sprint, mountain bike score and entertainment including a maze, quiz and a barbecue centered around the campsite.

In the Gilling Castle sprint race, Nathan Lawson U21 finished first in the Men’s Open while, in their age categories, Anne Straube finished second in the Women’s Vet, Kirsten Strain third in the Women’s Open and Sue Bicknell third in the Women’s Hyper Vet. .

After competing in the Intermediate and Classic races, the overall club member results were first place for Nathan Lawson in the M21 Long class and also a first place for Kirsten Strain in the W35 Long class.

And Anne Straube finished second in the W35 long class and Sue Bicknell second in the W75 class.

The club would also like to remind those interested that they are offering a series of free beginner’s sport initiation sessions in Warwick.

Sessions will take place on Saturday 3rd September from 2-3pm at St Nicholas Park in Warwick.

All ages, especially families, are welcome to come experience this fun outdoor adventure sport with full instruction from local club members.

Participants can walk or run through the park noting the letter on each post, using a free map, to complete the trails, much like a scavenger hunt. The length of the trails varies from 1.9 km to 3.6 km.
