ORIENTATION – Octavian Droobers participates in the summer festival

Members of the OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club took part in the popular annual multi-day Summer Orienteering Festival held this year in the Lake District.

The five individual one-day events were staged at different locations around the Lake District with courses on remote moorland and steep woodland.

Over 1000 entrants traveled from across the UK and Europe to take part in this premier event as club members enjoyed superb races over challenging technical areas with multiple podium finishes.

The overall results, after five events, included a first place from Alistair Landels on the M50 courses and another first place from Juliet Soulard on the W50 course.

And second places went to Nathan Lawson competing in the M21 Long class, Anne Straube in the W45 Long class and Sheila Carey in the W75 age class.

Junior club members also took part in the festival as Andrew Tang, competing in his first multi-day event, placed fifth overall in the M10 class with Max Straube-Roth seventh in the M14 class.

Other places in the top 10 went to: Hilary Simpson seventh W80, Trevor Simpson 10th M80, Peter Carey eighth M75, Barry Elkington ninth M65 and David Lawson 10th M55, all racing in their respective long age class.

On the short age class courses, Mykyta Chubynsky was third in the M45 and Paul Gregson was fourth in the M40.

The club is running two events, at which newcomers will be particularly welcome, the first taking place on Sunday August 21 at Rough Close Scout Camp, near Coventry from 10.30am to 11.30am, followed by the second on Wednesday August 24 at the University. from the Warwick campus at 6 p.m.
