Fun orienteering for all ages in Bacup later this month
An Orienteering event suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced is coming to Rossendale, Lancashire later this month.
The event, organized by Pendle Forest Orienteers (PFO), will be held at Stubbylee Park, Bacup on Saturday 24th April and is suitable for all ages.
It follows a very successful event held over the Easter holidays in which PFO partnered with the new owner of Rawtenstall Market and Rossendale School Sports Partnership (SSP) to create three different trails.
The trails of varying lengths all started and ended at the market and took people into the city center. The longer course even climbed behind Ski Rossendale in search of Easter signs placed on lampposts.
Rawtenstall Market offered a goodie bag to everyone who brought back their completed trail maps when they were done. They estimate to have given out around 200 awards. Rossendale SSP gave the first 50 to complete the course a special medal and entered all finishers into a draw.
A PFO spokeswoman said a huge thank you was due to the market and the SSP for their support.
She said: “We can’t believe how many young and old in the community took part. Seeing families walking around having fun with our orientation maps was a great sight. Having hundreds of community members getting involved in orientation, some of whom have been doing their third trails with us since we started the Halloween ones is such an amazing sight.”
Club organizers hope that those who enjoyed the trails will continue to orient themselves and attend their free evenings on Wednesdays from 6-6:30 p.m. via Zoom. These are led by qualified coaches and offer fun orientation activities. All the details can be found on the Facebook page.
