Donegal Sports Partnership to launch MapRun6 app at urban orientation event
Donegal Sports Partnership will launch the MapRun6 app at Bernard McGlinchey City Park in Letterkenny on Monday August 15 at 6pm.
The launch will coincide with a free urban orienteering course.
Project coordinator with Donegal Sports Partnership, Kirsty Browne, said there was growing interest in the event.
“It’s a great opportunity for beginners, families, people of all abilities to experience something different in Letterkenny,” she commented.
“The event will also see the official launch of the maps available for both Letterkenny parks on the MapRun6 app. The MapRun6 app offers several routes to choose from – there are short, medium and long routes available, so there are an option for everyone. There will be professionals from Orienteering Ireland available to guide and answer any questions,” she added.
The launch will be carried out by Donegal County Councilor Jimmy Kavanagh.
To register, log on to the link below and download the app before arriving.
People without an appointment are also welcome in the evening.
MapRun6 enables a form of orienteering that uses a SmartPhone app for punching and timing, eliminating the need to deploy flags and SI units on the course. This saves organizers time and effort, classes can stay open for long periods of time, and instant feedback is provided with track, personal results, and leaderboard results in the app.
