2022 JWOC Forestry Competitions to Continue in November

Young orienteers from around the world will have another chance to compete for the forestry competitions of the World Junior Orienteering Championships, which were canceled in July due to the ban on forestry activities in Portugal.

After consultation with member federations, team managers and local organisers, the IOF Council has decided to hold further JWOC medal competitions in Aguiar de Beira, Portugal from November 3-6.

The program will include:
Friday November 4: Middle distance without qualification (from 2023)
Saturday, November 5: Relay
Sunday, November 6: Long distance

During the consultation process, member federations showed great interest in sharing their views and the vast majority expressed their intention to participate in November.

The name of the competition will still be JWOC 2022 and participating member federations are allowed to make squad changes between the two parts of the championships.

The original JWOC was held July 9-16 and ultimately featured a sprint, sprint relay, and city relay (no medal competition). The ban on forestry activities was imposed by the Portuguese government due to the high risk of fires.
